16 feet, less than 600 Lbs and almost 500 sq. feet of sail area downwind! Only 2 sail the boat. Cannot capsize or sink; light, fast, flying, the Open 5,00 is the perfect balance between the dinghy and the keelboat.
The Open 500 has the same quality than the Open 570: fast, reactive, always in planning, trailerable and easy set up and launch from a ramp. The boat is also about twice lighter and is sailed by 2 crew. Now the great "plus" about this keel boat is the "pivot" keel" as oppose to a lifting keel. The keel is hinged and pivot. You can therefore pivot the keel on a downwind surf but also beach almost like a beachcat before putting your boat back on the trailer! The boat is supplied complete, ready to sail, spinnaker included (Mylar square top main, Mylard furling jib and asymmetrical spinnaker).
The mast rotates and can be easily stepped by only 2 persons. The ballast is 190 Lbs that gives the boat great stability and security when sailing. The keel pivotes also when sailing and allows better surfing and planning. The asymmetrical spinnaker is launched from a snuffer system under the cabin roof
